GPA is the most important part (and a large factor as to whether you will get a scholarship) , but jmu definitely looks at the whole package. Try to get as involved as you can is HS.

I applied. Easy as that, got in without any issue, they didn't even really require an essay. People with MUCH worse HS grades than mine got in with little issue as well.

It's getting really difficult and competitive to get in so make sure you spend a good amount of time on the application and if you don't get in directly the first time, write letters to the directors of admission telling them what you have improved on and different skills you have accumulated over the semester. That's what got me in in the end! :)
